The Director

Kara Kurcz – Director and Producer

Kara’s passion for directing and storytelling started at the age of seven when her dad purchased the family a beta camera. Her father and her started documenting family memories and she never looked back.

She began her television career on the crime show, “America’s Most Wanted” after graduating from the University of Iowa’s film program. She quickly rose through the ranks from Intern to Producer as she pitched, wrote, and even directed the show’s re-enactments. When the show decided to open a Los Angeles bureau, Kara jumped at the chance to get to Hollywood and follow her movie-making dreams.

By 23, Kara found herself at E! Entertainment. There, she received accolades in TV Guide and People Magazine for producing and directing the two-hour documentary, “Dirty Dancing: The E! True Hollywood Story.” She went on to produce and direct for a wide range of networks, including NBC and ABC, and television shows like EXTRA and Tyra Banks Show. Kara started collaborating with Z00 Productions in 2002 as Producer on Oxygen Network’s hit series, Girls Behaving Badly. She has since served as Executive Producer and Director on several other Zoo series, such as Tru TV’s Speeders, Speeders Fight Back, Over The Limit, and Busted for MTV.

bigTIME is Kara’s first feature film, documenting her struggles and triumphs as a small business owner during America’s current recession.
